Will Whitening Hurt My Porcelain Veneers?
Posted by writeradmin
I have four porcelain veneers placed on my teeth and really like them, but the teeth next to them show and the color difference makes it obvious that the veneers are not my natural teeth then. I was wondering if I got Crest Whitestrips whether they would hurt my porcelain veneers? I really want to get my teeth the same color.

Dear Bethany,

I am glad you wrote. I think I can help you here. First, though, I am curious about your dentist not taking care of this ahead of time. It is pretty much standard procedure to have patients whiten their teeth before getting their porcelain veneers. Most smiles are eight to ten teeth wide so you would want the color to be close.
The good news is that teeth whitening will not harm your porcelain veneers. However, I do not think you will get the results that you want from Crest Whitestrips. While they do work, they have two distinct disadvantages. First, they will only cover the front six of your teeth. That means only two teeth will get whitened. Your smile is probably wider than that, which means you’d have to use several strips at once. That will cost more money. Second, they are significantly weaker than what you would get with your dentist. This means it will take many boxes of kits to get the results you want. If you want them very white they will take a long time and a lot of boxes.
In the end, you could do it faster and for about the same amount of money through your dentist with professional strength teeth whitening. Plus, your dentist could custom fit the trays around your porcelain veneers. I think that would be the ideal solution for you.
