Birmingham, AL Dental Bonding
Minor tooth imperfections can be corrected in a single visit with dental bonding by nationally renowned cosmetic dentist Dr. Thomas Dudney.
Conditions Treatable by Dental Bonding
Dental bonding is a convenient way to restore a smile hindered by any of the following minor cosmetic conditions:
- Tooth gaps, chips, or spots
- Imperfections in tooth texture or shape
This type of treatment is most suitable in cases when cosmetic damage is limited to a few distinct areas. When several teeth are affected, we typically recommend porcelain veneers. Where damage is due to tooth decay, porcelain crowns are used to restore beauty and healthy function.
Our Dental Bonding Process
Step 1: Prepare the Enamel
To begin, Dr. Dudney prepares the surface of the tooth to facilitate adhesion of the bonding material. This involves roughening the enamel, conditioning it with an etching gel, and applying a bonding agent.
Step 2: Apply the Composite Material
Then, the artistry begins. Dr. Dudney applies a composite resin to the tooth surface to correct the shape, color, or texture of the tooth. He uses multiple composites in different shades to maintain the tooth’s natural translucency and color variation. A high-gloss composite is layered on top so that the tooth reflects light just as it did before bonding. The finished tooth blends seamlessly with the surrounding teeth. In the “after” photo below, notice how the restored area is indistinguishable from the rest of the natural tooth.
