Birmingham, AL Full-Mouth Reconstruction
Restoring the health and balance of your teeth and mouth through full-mouth reconstruction brings renewed comfort, relief from pain, and confidence in your appearance. Among the benefits is a new smile designed by nationally renowned cosmetic dentist Dr. Thomas Dudney.
When Is Full-Mouth Reconstruction Necessary?
Full-mouth reconstruction is a series of treatments to address bite imbalances and dysfunctions. An improperly aligned bite can cause:
- headaches or migraines
- discomfort when chewing
- excessive wear to the teeth
- clicking or popping of the jaw joint
- pain to the jaw, ear, face, neck, or shoulders
- temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder
An imbalanced bite can happen for many reasons. Some people experience bite dysfunction due to severe tooth wear. In other cases, a person’s bite can become compromised after having lost multiple teeth without replacing them or after having had extensive dental work done that didn’t properly account for healthy occlusion.
Goals of Treatment
Whatever the symptoms or causes of your bite dysfunction, we can help. Through full-mouth reconstruction, you’ll experience:
- relief from pain associated with TMJ disorder
- comfortable jaw movement
- freedom to eat whatever foods you like
- clearer speech
- a new, beautiful, natural-looking smile
- a lifted, younger-looking face
Full-Mouth Reconstruction: Our Process
Your journey to a new smile and healthy jaw function will begin with a consultation with Dr. Dudney. After assessing your unique needs, he’ll determine the types of treatment that are right for you. Multiple treatments will be combined to create your complete full-mouth reconstruction. Once your treatment plan is established, you’ll receive treatment over several different appointments. Here’s a look at the different elements that may be a part of your reconstructive treatment.
Crowns and Bridges
Almost every full-mouth reconstruction involves restoring the aesthetics and vertical dimension of teeth with porcelain crowns. A bridge may also be used to restore a missing tooth. In a bridge, the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth are crowned, and a crown suspended between them replaces the missing tooth.
Dental Implants
Another option for replacing a missing tooth is a dental implant. Dental implants are porcelain crowns that are affixed permanently to the jaw via embedded fixtures.
Implant-Supported Dentures
If you’ve already lost all of your teeth, your full-mouth reconstruction will involve the placement of implant-supported dentures. Your dentures will be custom-designed to create a beautiful smile and healthy bite for you. Then they’ll be anchored to your mouth through the use of dental implants, giving you a secure smile that feels like having your natural teeth back.
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers may be used to complete your ideal smile. They cover the front of your existing teeth to give you a brand new look.
