Treating Enamel Hypoplasia
Posted by writeradmin
I have enamel hypoplasia and am hoping that there is some way I can have a beautiful smile. Is there a solution for someone in my position? Money is not an issue in my case.

Dear Sara,
Yes, there are definitely solutions for someone with enamel hypoplasia. Which solution you use will depend mostly on the severity of your hypoplasia. For those who are unfamiliar of what this condition is, it is when the enamel of someone’s teeth do not fully form. This can be through a genetic defect or from an illness while your teeth are still forming.
The two options are dental bonding or porcelain veneers. While technically, you can do either one for both levels of hypoplasia, there are times that one makes more sense than the other.
If you have a case of mild hypoplasia, then you can solve it with dental bonding just on the spots where it occurs. If the case is more severe, then porcelain veneers will be a better option. These were more permanent and can cover a great surface area. Dental bonding can cover the tooth too, but they aren’t as good of a treatment, which means you will have to replace them more often and they will not be as beautiful as they would with veneers.
This has to be done by an expert cosmetic dentist. Even basic cosmetic dentistry cases with porcelain veneers require expertise. Enamel Hypoplasia is one of the toughest cases to work on.
Make sure your dentist has extensive post doctoral training. Dental school is not enough. I want you to take a look at Dr. Dudney’s bio. This will give you an idea of what type of credentials you will want in the dentist you have do this. It will be worth it, even if you have to travel to another state to find the right dentist to do it.
